There is a Japanese word called ikigai and it is kind of a life philosophy on how to live, it involves things you are good at, things you can offer the world, a sense of duty, a sense of purpose, the things that you love and value and so on.
When we start the group we were just starting out as parents. The group is obviously skewed towards men, regardless of our openness, it just turned out that way. We had kids in common. We had the every day pressures that most men faced when moving out of single life and into parenthood.
Where are we now? Our kids are becoming teenagers. We have at every stage got new things to discuss as we all see and witness the changes in our own kids, in our professional lives and in the simple fact that with every passing year we become a little bit older, perhaps just slightly more set in our ways and in the groove of our lives.
The beach becomes a sort of elixir and an antidote to the pressures of life. Since we all go through it together, since we are all faced with our various challenges, the common thread is that we know that if we rise with the sun and get to the water’s edge, you’ll almost certainly have someone to share your life with, in the water, and over at the coffee spot shortly after. The laughter can often be completely infectious and in the case of White Mouse, when he is on a roll, there’s few that can beat him.
It is a blessing that we get to see this magical vista every morning. On the most part pristine, on the bad days, a proper tempest. Forbidding sometimes, almost a bath at others.
We encourage you to find your ikigai. And you are welcome to come and join us.
